Living near the coast or a river can be wonderful! You have plenty of amazing views, and you get to enjoy the water without having to travel. For these reasons, waterside properties are highly desirable. Unfortunately with the great also comes the not-so great!

When you have a waterside property, you run the risk of experiencing erosion not only at times of hurricanes and storms but at any time. If you leave this unchecked, the waves will damage your landscape and cause flooding. Thankfully your beautiful shore can be saved by seawalls. The seawall will reduce erosion by containing the soil and preventing it from eroding the water.

Now, every waterfront property is different, and the type of seawall you get will depend on several factors:

  • Water level
  • Elevation and slope of your property
  • How else do you plan to use the seawall
  • How do you want it to look
  • The severity of waves
  • Your budget

Depending on these factors we would either build a vertical wall or a riprap. A vertical wall is an upright wall that is suited to protect your land from harsh waves. A seawall can be made of different materials concrete, likewood, aluminum, vinyl, fiberglass, and composite. They can also easily blend in with your dock, boat or deck.

On the other hand, a riprap installation is designed for low-impact areas and are usually more affordable. These will not work for heavy waves! Riprap embarkments can also be made of different materials such as rocks, sandbags, stones, and even concrete rubble leftover.

Seawalls and ripraps are beneficial to your property since they protect your landscape and increase the value of your home.
